Discrimination and exclusion are wearing heavily on the consciousness of humanity if we aspire to make the world work for 100% of humanity. It prevents many of us to live a meaningful life while humanity as a whole remains deprived of a unique contribution.
Uprooting such practices from the fabric of society is not an easy task. Much progress has already been made, yet the road is full of difficulties and setbacks. There is no simple solution. It will require a unified and sustained effort from people from all colours and backgrounds. To address discrimination of any kind – racial, gender, age, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious – we have to do this together.

our framework: unity in diversity
soul.com has two decades of experience in transforming companies into communities. We consider communities as the highest form of human organisation where the various talents and capacities of different people are channelled into one purposeful and productive movement.

Diversity is a natural part of being human. It is through our ability to create unity between people that our diversity becomes a source of power, resilience and innovation. There is no “us” and “them”, but the recognition that we are in essence one.

our approach:
capacity building

We are building capacity in people to take charge of their own development in becoming a community. We do this by offering training courses that aim people within organisations to become a constructive force; to become agents of change. Our individual actions make an impact. Right here and now. Together we are learning how to create the conditions for lasting change. Participants immediately apply the concepts into their own daily reality at work. Central to our methodology is learning in action: a systematic process of action, reflection upon action, consultation and study.

unity in diversity:
addressing racial inequity

Soul.com has developed a training programme that aims to strengthen a culture of diversity, equity and inclusion. It trains people within an organisation to be engaged in meaningful conversations and actions that address difficulties and tension regarding diversity.

The first is this series is about addressing racial inequity. Subsequent training courses focus on gender equality, nationality, age, religion, and sexual orientation. The first course about addressing racial inequity consists of a kick-off meeting followed by a series of learning sessions of two hours that each focus on the strengthening of a personal capacity required to address racial inequity around us:

Session 1: Listening to each other
Session 2: Building relationships of trust
Session 3: Learning together
Session 4: Building unity
Session 5: Overcoming judgement
Session 6: Building on strengths
Session 7: Developing a new language
Session 8: Inviting others

Between the sessions, we will take action and reflect upon our action. Together we create an environment of mutual support and cooperation, so essential if we wish to make progress in this area.

systemic growth

In order to make more impact and to reach more people quickly within the organisation, some of the participants can be trained as facilitators for the program. They do this by participating in the capacity building program Soul-driven Leadership course 1 (trust) and 2 (hope). In addition, they will study the program “unity in diversity” in greater depth and gain practical experience in facilitating a group themselves. These people will receive certificates for the courses completed and will be accompanied by facilitators of soul.com in their efforts to facilitate the program.

After this, many more people can be accompanied by these trained facilitators, the organisation can scale the efforts to anyone interested. Together they change the culture, practices and reality of the organisation.

outcome and results

Upon completion of the program participants will have an increased understanding of the importance of diversity and how they can in practical terms contribute to racial unity. They will be able to converse with others in a constructive manner about race and promote unity between various people.

Those participating in the capacity building program Soul-driven Leadership will be able to facilitate the ‘unity in diversity’ program themselves within the organisation, allowing for a growing group of individuals to become protagonists of cultural change within the organization.
